Day 5 No wonder we love bread so much!

Please read the excerpt from 12 steps to raw foods by Victoria Boutenko, pgs 101-102

Addictive substances in wheat:

A novel opioid peptide was isolated from wheat gluten.
Gluten exorphins from wheat normally reach opiate receptors in the central nervous system and trigger their function.

Scientists have measured the amount of opiates in wheat: .5mg of the most active peptides were equivalent to 1nM (nanomole) of morphine. While 1nM is only a trace amount of morphine, its quantity is still significant to the central nervous system. For example, 1nM of morphine can be compared to the amounts of opiates in our hormones such as endorphins that are synthesized by our body to combat pain or create a feeling of pleasure and well being. Let us also keep in mind that this amount of opiates was extracted from a very small amount of wheat. (is this really saying there are drug effects from bread?) Take a look at
http://www.13.waisays.com/cigarettes.htm ..great article!

Bread has a profound calming effect through its opium like sedating action thus bringing satisfaction to its consumers. In addition, opioid peptides penetrate the walls of the intestines and slow down the digestion, which results in our feeling of fullness. That is why people who are accustomed to the regular eating of bread have a hard time reaching satiety without it.

  1. Hi, Lifetime Change People,

I apologize for not posting. Im not making any excuses. I ate well Friday. Yesterday I had a grits, for lunch I had a beautiful health salad from my favorite restaurant..Doc Greens. I think we all should go there soon. One Saturday...that could probably be our field trip day...

Today I am doing my FAST! I know...I know. Man this is the hardest thing I had to do in a while. I am trying to make it though. I think I may have to go to sleep to keep my mind off of the food. Usually I would look at the Food Network Channel but not today.

I've already planned my food schedule for tomorrow. Im going to do RAW. Stay Tuned... I might write again today to let you know how i am doing with this lemon/water.

Question. Can I add sugar with my lemon/water? Let me know!!!

  2. wwwwwoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooo! It is finished, at least for the month. It was so sort of a challenge but I feel really good.

I tried to go to sleep and wake up in the morning but that plan didn't happen. Everytime I turned over what seem to like at lease 2 hours was only 20 minutes. Agonizing Pain in my mind. LOL. I was hungry...oh so hungry but i knew it was only when I thought about it. I feel really good. I think I may challenge myself to do this twice a month. We will see. MIND OVER MATTER!

Well now it is 12:20am and I just fixed me a small salad. The salad consisted of romaine lettuce, carrots, and cranberries. It was really good. Now I am about to do some work and go to sleep. Tomorrow I am on Raw. Stay Tuned...

  3. Ok Ladies, heres the real story. I tried to do the fasting today, but because of a medical condition, I was unable to stick with it all the way. I manage to make it to 2pm after church, but once I realize that I could barely walk, talk, or think clearly, I knew my blood sugar was dropping and droping quickly. Once I manage to get myself together because I was shakely, I took my blood sugar and it was 46. For those that dont understand that number that is really bad and serious. I ate a mint and a cheese sandwich and felt much better. I decided that I didnt want to quit so I said that I wasnt going to eat anything else until after midnight. For those that want to say, once I ate the mint and cheese sandwhich the fast is over, I say, at least I tried it, did you? After midnight I ate a healthy salad and water. I look forward to the raw days. Goodnight.

  4. Hey guys! So sorry I haven't written in a couple days. This weekend was a bit of a challenge for me. I started off really well Saturday morning, but lunch... I had a meeting to put on and we got boxed lunches. I got mine, and was chowing down! Roasted potatoes & veggies, and crab cakes. I was almost done with the 2nd crab cake when I realized, "OMG! This is fried!!!" I felt sooooooo disappointed, I barely ate anything the rest of the day, just lots of water & apple juice (simple apple juice..sooo good & natural.)

Sunday was a good day. I ate pretty good. started off right w/ my lemon water, and pineapple. Didn't really eat anything until after church. I had a meeting after church where lunch was to be provided. Usually something good is bought. This time nothing but pizza and soda!!!! Everyone was chomping and drinking down, and the 3 of us on the detox just sat there withering away, getting weaker by the minute, stomachs growling & reaching for the pizza! I felt like I was in a movie sequence where everything was in slow motion, pizza cheese gooing out everyones mouth, while they laughed in supreme satisfaction! LOL LOL But I held tight. I went home and made some quesadillas on my george forman grill. Yumm! Then I made turkey wings, brown rice & a spinach salad for dinner. Yumm! So that was my weekend.

I'm feeling good though. I'm going to really try and do all raw today. We'll see how this goes!

    ;-)
