Day 12 Detoxification

What does it mean to detoxify your body?

Detoxification is a self-purifying process which the body carries out at all times, but most aggressively during the early to late morning hours. It is advantageous to eat lightly in the morning. Heavy foods eaten at this time suspend the cleansing process, keeping us toxic, and, in some cases, overweight. The process of "detox" entails: 1. the cells off-loading metabolic wastes and environmental toxins into the bloodstream for filtering by the liver and kidneys for elimination, and 2. the organs of elimination (bowels, kidneys, lungs, skin, vagina) releasing metabolic, environmental and residual food wastes via feces, urine, breath, sweat and menses. Toxins are also expectorated in mucus via the throat and sinuses. (This information is from livingnutrition.com-Taken from Your Natural Diet: Alive Raw Foods by Drs. T. C. Fry & David Klein)

Many people believe that once I do a short detox program my body is rid of all of its toxins. This is incorrect information. After years and years of improper eating habits our body harbors many toxins that lead to diseases, illness, and many other symptoms. It can take months or even years to restore your body to a healthy state. The most beautiful part of our bodies is that if we start to treat them right they will heal themselves. No matter how late you start in life!

The article link attached below will give you some insight to cleaning out your insides.

Day 11 What is a raw diet?

Many of you have asked questions about what is a raw diet and what foods are included/excluded. I have attached an article for you to browse to get a few quick pointers. This lady has a great website called rawglow.

http://www.rawglow.com/whyrawfoods.htm

Remember, you need a balanced diet and EXERCISE! 30 minutes a day to keep the fat away. It can be as simple as walking. Break it up into 10 minute intervals. Don't say you don't have time. You have time in your day for what you decide is important to you.

If it were work, tv, a date, church, or anything else you would make time for it. Stop making excuses and just get out and do it. I promise you will not be disappointed!

Day 10 Food Combination

Ever wonder why some foods you eat together may give you gas?

Read the article attached to see good ways to combine your fruits, veggies and meats (if you have to have those) to prevent bloating, gas and indigestion. The ladies that published the article have a great website if you would like to check out some of their other goodies too!

Day 9 Probiotics

What are probiotics?

Short and sweet, there are the good bacteria that are found in the body. I have attached a link for you to read more about what the benefits and dangers of probiotics. I have personally used this product for about one year and have seen the difference in my digestive health and immunity. You can find probiotics in your health food store in pill and powder form. I usually tend to order online to get a big quantity for a better price.

Day 8 Food Association

Did you ever stop and think about your most favorite memories?

I remember holidays with family, special moments with friends and hundreds of other celebrations and you know what the consistent theme is...food is always at every event. Isn't it funny how when we are going to a party or celebration we expect food to be there? As I am reading the 12 Steps to Raw Food by Victoria she highlights very thought provoking questions.

What if you went to a party or celebration and there was no food how would you feel? We link food to moments of reward, celebration, emotional turmoil and anything else we can think of.

If we only ate the foods that were nutritious for our body, would we really still have cake at birthdays, wings and beer at football games, candy at the movies, ice cream when we felt down? These things add nothing of value to our bodies but yet in still we consume them in large quantities.

I challenge you to look at your habits and see where you associate food with activities that are fantastic even without junk!

Try to watch a movie without food in your hands.
Meet a friend not for lunch but for fruit smoothies.

Day 6 Field Trip Anyone?

So we are almost to seven whole days of this journey and I am so happy to see everyone is becoming more aware of the food choices you make everyday! I found this amazing website I would like everyone to check out: http://www.livingfoodsinstitute.com/index.htm

This lady has a phenomenal story check out her bio. Also, I would like everyone to think about going to one of her FREE seminars. The next seminar is not until May 18 which is a Monday from 7-9 pm. Hopefully, we can all go together it would be wonderful to experience it as a group. She teaches about raw and vegetarian lifestyles and how she healed her illnesses without medicine but just good healthy food!

This week is a full week so everyone should be doing two full all raw days. That means fruit, veggies, raw nuts and seeds. Raw nuts and seeds are not roasted and don't have salt or sugar on them. Cheese, yogurt, croutons and even some salad dressings are not considered raw foods. Remember that you have to eat twice as much when just eating all raw foods. Eat every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Happy healthy days!

Day 5 No wonder we love bread so much!

Please read the excerpt from 12 steps to raw foods by Victoria Boutenko, pgs 101-102

Addictive substances in wheat:

A novel opioid peptide was isolated from wheat gluten.
Gluten exorphins from wheat normally reach opiate receptors in the central nervous system and trigger their function.

Scientists have measured the amount of opiates in wheat: .5mg of the most active peptides were equivalent to 1nM (nanomole) of morphine. While 1nM is only a trace amount of morphine, its quantity is still significant to the central nervous system. For example, 1nM of morphine can be compared to the amounts of opiates in our hormones such as endorphins that are synthesized by our body to combat pain or create a feeling of pleasure and well being. Let us also keep in mind that this amount of opiates was extracted from a very small amount of wheat. (is this really saying there are drug effects from bread?) Take a look at
http://www.13.waisays.com/cigarettes.htm ..great article!

Bread has a profound calming effect through its opium like sedating action thus bringing satisfaction to its consumers. In addition, opioid peptides penetrate the walls of the intestines and slow down the digestion, which results in our feeling of fullness. That is why people who are accustomed to the regular eating of bread have a hard time reaching satiety without it.

Day 4 Sugar dependency

Scientists have become aware of progressively more new particles in different products including a number of addictive substances in some common foods such as sugar. Sweets taste good because eating them literally makes us feel good. Sweets induce pleasurable sensations in the body. Research indicates that sweet receptors in the mouth are coupled to brain areas that release endogenous opiates-those natural morphine like chemicals that induce a sense of pleasure and well being. The taste of sweet in itself is enough to activate pleasure centers in the brain.
Chocolate, candy, ice cream, cola, cake etc contain white sugar (sucrose) which is an unnatural molecule that has no nutritional value. White sugar is an example of “empty calories” because of its concentrated energy. Ingestion of large amounts of refined sugar can lead to a nutrient debt wherein a person has sufficient energy to fuel the body but lacks other essential nutrients. This causes undernourishment in overweight persons.
Sucrose comes from cooked starchy vegetables. In the process of cooking sweet potatoes nearly all of the starch present becomes converted into sugar. Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, squash, carrots, broccoli and others in a cooked form add even more sugar to our diets. White bread, cereal, pasta, and other foods made from white flour also contain lots of sucrose. The human body tries to cope with such an enormous consumption of sugar by increasing insulin production just after eating begins. The continuous overeating of sugar inevitably leads to the condition known as hypoglycemia, when we constantly have increased levels of insulin present in our bloodstream keeping our body ready for sugar consumption at any time. Hypoglycemia is dangerous for the brain which needs a constant supply of glucose. If you suffer from hypoglycemia you will feel the urge to continuously eat sweets. Attempts to stop eating after consuming a relatively small amount usually fail due to the voracious appetite cause by this insulin produced hypoglycemic state thus making a binge almost inevitable. Consuming sugar in the form of sucrose inevitably leads to a dependency on sugar. (From Pgs 96-98 12 Steps to Raw Foods by Victoria Boutenko)

What is converting into sugar in your body as you read this post?

Day 3

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a form of blue green algae. It is a a great source of protein, amino acids, B-12, iron and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid).

Benefits:

1. Increases growth of a bacteria called acidophilus which helps to break down foods in the digestive tracts.
2. Protects live from damage and builds immune system
3. Can help with iron anemia, mineral deficiency.
4. Studies in Japan and India are linked to suppression of herpes, HIV and certain cancers
5. Aids the body in detoxification

Two short articles to check out about Spirulina

30 Day Detox

Slow but steady progress is the goal for April 1 - 30.

Below you will find the rules for the journey. This journey was originally created for seven wonderful ladies all with separate goals but overnight it is slowly transforming to a much larger group. I am so excited to see the enthusiasm of everyone and my heartfelt vision is to reach as many people as God will allow!

Again, the goal is to become healthier individuals and then positive results will follow. Some may be anxious to step on the scale but PLEASE REFRAIN FROM WEIGHING YOURSELF UNTIL MAY 1ST. The reason I ask that you don't weigh yourself is because I don't want anyone to become obsessed with a number IT IS MUCH BIGGER THAN THAT NUMBER ON THE SCALE!

My goal is to help you untrain your mind to crave junk and program yourself to adore NATURE'S BEST! (Fruits, veggies and all other whole foods)

Rules of Engagement:

· Positive Mind equals positive results. (what you focus on becomes your reality)

· Challenge yourself to reach higher levels.

· Don’t be afraid of change.

· 30 day DETOX - Take things out of your diet.

o Eliminate fast food

o Eliminate fried food

o Eliminate soda

o Two days a week eat only fruits/veggies/nuts(unsalted and not roasted, RAW is the best)

o Fast one day out of the month – Lemon, water only ***Super challenge (if you have a medical condition like diabetes, etc please consult your doctor first)

o Journal on how you feel everyday (post to the blog) – start your day off right

§ 10 minutes stretching, heart pumping activity in the A.M. (see what your body craves)

§ Fruit, water with lemon first thing in the A.M.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!

One more thing: we will not accept NEGATIVITY on this blog, words like I can't don't belong on this blog and if you put negative energy into the air you will be deleted IN LOVE from the blog immediately. If you want to challange anything I post please do so, I am not an expert, I am learning along with everyone else but have respect for the group.

Ready, Set, Go

Welcome to Nutritional Newbies!

Contrary to popular opinion this blog is not going to be established on the premise of weight loss at the speed of light. The goal is to expose you to nutritional facts and the dangers of what we consume on a daily basis with the hopes that a little change today will yield a greater return tomorrow. Investing in your health is almost like investing in the stock market, put in a small amount everyday and over time you will become wealthy.

Over and over again, I hear the phrase "you are what you eat" but do you know what you are eating? We have been become a society based on convenience and speed and because of this we are deteriorating our bodies with JUNK that is available in 1.2 seconds but taking 1.2 years off of our lives every time we consume it!

So my challenge to all my NUTRITIONAL NEWBIES.....Stop and think about what you are eating before you eat it. Think about how it was made and what it might do to your body. If you don't know what it will do, find out! (Or ask me and I will do the research for you)

Education is the key!

Take this journey with me and unlike the other gimmicks out there, I promise you will reap a reward for your diligence!
